Rather Be Fishing - Fishing Logbook

Overview

Rather Be Fishing - Fishing Logbook is designed as an offline-first fishing logbook. We do not operate account or cloud-sync servers for your trip, catch, location, or settings data.

Your logbook data is stored locally on your device unless you choose to export it or your device operating system backs it up according to your Android, iOS, Google, or Apple account settings.

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not automatically upload your logbook database or entire photo library. Optional online features process the information described below.
• We do not create user accounts.
• We do not store your fishing logs on Rather Be Fishing servers.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not use our own analytics service to track your behavior.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The app may store the following information locally so the logbook can work:

• Fishing trips, catches, notes, bait, techniques, and species names.
• Catch photos and selected thumbnail settings.
• Location names, latitude, longitude, and optional accuracy values.
• Weather and environmental details saved with catches.
• Saved locations, autocomplete entries, backup history, and exported backup or CSV files that you choose to create.
• Unit preferences and display settings.

Support Requests

If you contact support by email or through the website support form, we may receive the name or nickname you provide, your optional email address, your selected platform, and your message. This information is used only to understand and respond to your support request.

If you do not provide an email address in the support form, we may not be able to reply directly.

Backup and Export

The app can create local backup files and CSV exports when you choose to use those tools. Backup files may include trips, catches, photos, saved locations, settings, and autocomplete lists. CSV exports contain spreadsheet-friendly trip and catch information.

These files are saved only where you choose to save or share them. Rather Be Fishing does not receive, collect, host, or store backup or CSV export files.

Internet Features

Most logbook features work offline. Some optional features need an internet connection, including location search, map display, weather lookup, FishID online species lookup, and ads.

When you use location search, maps, or weather lookup, the information needed for that request may be sent to third-party services such as Google Maps Platform, Apple MapKit, geocoding services, or a weather provider.

In Android v1.67 and later, forecast and automatic water lookups use NOAA/National Weather Service, MET Norway, USGS and NASA POWER. Requests include selected coordinates, dates/times or monitoring-station identifiers. These providers also receive network information such as your IP address and may log requests under their own policies. Responses may be cached locally on your device. Weather requests do not upload your photos or logbook database. See MET Norway's privacy information for its processing practices.

When you request FishID analysis, the selected photo or a resized/refined copy is sent through Rather Be Fishing's hosted AI endpoint to an AI service provider for species suggestions. This includes a photo taken with the guided FishID camera. This request processing is separate from cloud storage of your logbook; AI suggestions can be incorrect.

AI-assisted location search and planning requests may similarly send the entered search or question and relevant location or starting-point details through Rather Be Fishing's hosted endpoints. Hosting and AI providers may receive network information such as your IP address and process requests under their own policies. Local-first storage does not mean that optional online features transmit no information.

Advertising

The app may show ads served by Google AdMob. Google may collect or process information to provide, measure, and improve ads according to Google's own policies and your device settings.

Permissions

The app may request permissions when needed for app features, such as camera access for a new FishID photo or location access for location-based tools. You can instead select an existing photo or enter/select a location where the feature allows it. Online lookups and ads require an internet connection.

Your Choices

• You can add, edit, or delete trips and catches inside the app.
• You can choose whether to use internet-based location and weather features.
• You can remove locally stored app data by deleting records in the app or uninstalling the app.

Children's Privacy

The app is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support request or an optional online feature, contact us at support@ratherbefishing.net.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page.
